Market contextRobot vacuums alone are a US$9–12.5bn global market growing at double digits. Around 17% of UK 25–34-year-olds already own one.
Domestic robots are the largest and most liquid category in the UK used robot market. Robot vacuums, mop combos, lawn mowers, and pool cleaners all follow predictable depreciation curves — typically 6 to 12% per year — and because the technology changes faster than the machines wear out, a one-year-old flagship often performs identically to a new one at 35 to 50% less cost.
The key difference between a good domestic robot purchase and a disappointing one is almost always the same variable: battery health. On a robot vacuum, battery health determines runtime. On a robot mower, it determines whether the machine can complete a single pass of your lawn without returning to charge. Ask for a screenshot from the companion app before viewing, and confirm the dock or charging station is included — on premium models the dock accounts for a third of the total product value.
Seasonal timing matters more in this category than any other. Robot mowers hit their annual price low in November; pool robots are cheapest in October when pools close; robot vacuums are most affordable in August after spring launch cycles push last year's models onto the market. Buying in the right month can save an additional 10 to 15% on top of the used discount.

Used robot vacuums typically sell for £140–£430 in the UK, depending on model and condition. A used iRobot Roomba j7+ or Roborock S8 Pro Ultra in good condition usually trades at £350–£600, while mid-range models like the Eufy RoboVac X8 sell for £200–£350. Prices are 35–50% below retail for one-year-old flagships.
Battery health is the single most important check. Ask the seller for a screenshot from the manufacturer's app (Roborock, iRobot, EufyHome) showing battery health before you travel. A battery below 70% will significantly reduce runtime. Also confirm the docking station is included — on premium models the dock can account for a third of the product's total value.
They should, but many sellers list the unit only. Always confirm the dock is included before paying. The iRobot Clean Base and Roborock RockDock are designed specifically for their paired robot and cannot be substituted. A listing without a dock should be priced £60–£150 less depending on the model.
November is the best month to buy a used robot mower in the UK. Sellers close their pools and put mowers away at the end of the season, so supply peaks and prices fall by 10–15% versus their spring high. Avoid March to May when demand from buyers setting up for summer pushes prices up.
