“Safe androids for work and home environments.”
Developer of EVE (wheeled) and NEO (bipedal) humanoids. Norwegian-founded, US-based. Backed by OpenAI.
1X Technologies (formerly Halodi Robotics) was founded in 2014 in Norway, making it one of the older entries in the humanoid category. The company relocated its centre of gravity to the US while retaining Norwegian engineering roots. It is backed by OpenAI and has received over $100 million in funding, with OpenAI's involvement partly reflecting the company's approach to integrating large language models into robot control pipelines.
1X develops two distinct platforms. EVE is a wheeled humanoid designed for security patrol, retail assistance, and facility operations, offering stable, predictable movement suitable for environments with human foot traffic. NEO is the bipedal platform targeting more demanding physical tasks requiring stair climbing and uneven terrain navigation. The company's stated focus is on producing humanoids that work safely alongside people in everyday environments rather than exclusively in industrial settings.
1X has taken a measured approach to scaling compared with some US competitors, prioritising software maturity and safety validation over headline funding announcements. The Norwegian engineering culture and OpenAI's AI research resources give it a distinctive technical profile.
1X Technologies does not have a UK office or established distribution channel. European market entry has been discussed but not formally announced. UK organisations in security, facilities management, or retail interested in EVE would need to engage directly with 1X's commercial team. Import from the US or Norway would carry additional costs and compliance considerations.
No secondhand market exists. EVE units deployed in pilot and commercial settings are under service agreements managed directly by 1X. The NEO platform is too new for surplus hardware to have appeared. Buyers should monitor the situation as the company scales; enterprise equipment disposals from pilot partners may eventually produce secondhand availability.
