“Humanoid robots designed to do useful work.”
Creator of Digit, the bipedal robot deployed at Amazon and GXO for warehouse logistics. Spun out of Oregon State University.
Agility Robotics was founded in 2015 as a spin-off from Oregon State University, commercialising bipedal locomotion research by professor Jonathan Hurst. The company's first robot, Cassie, was a legless bipedal platform sold to research institutions and became one of the most studied dynamic walkers in academic robotics. The transition to a full humanoid came with Digit, which added arms and a torso to create a robot capable of performing logistics tasks in environments built for humans.
Digit gained significant commercial traction when Amazon announced a deployment agreement in 2023, followed by GXO Logistics. These partnerships validated the case for bipedal humanoids in warehouse pick-and-move tasks, particularly tote handling and trailer unloading. The company completed a Series B funding round exceeding $150 million and opened a dedicated manufacturing facility in Salem, Oregon, branded as "RoboFab."
Agility's technical differentiator is its focus on energy-efficient walking mechanics derived from passive dynamic locomotion research, giving Digit longer operational endurance than many competing humanoid platforms.
Agility Robotics does not currently have a dedicated UK sales or service operation. UK enterprise buyers would need to engage through direct US channels or wait for European distribution agreements. No confirmed UK warehouse deployments are publicly documented. The robot's focus on US logistics infrastructure makes near-term UK commercial availability uncertain.
The secondhand market for Digit is minimal. Units sold to date are under commercial service agreements with active enterprise clients, making surplus availability unlikely in the near term. Cassie research units do appear through university equipment disposals, typically priced at £20,000 to £40,000. Buyers of Cassie should note that software support from Agility is limited and the platform is legacy; it suits continued locomotion research but not commercial task deployment.
