“One robot, endless possibilities.”
Makers of Apollo, an industrial humanoid with 4-hour runtime and swappable battery packs. Launch partner with Mercedes-Benz.
Apptronik was founded in 2016 at the University of Texas at Austin, growing out of the Human Centered Robotics Lab. The team has a long history in actuator design and human-robot interaction research, including prior work on NASA's Valkyrie humanoid platform. That institutional background gives Apptronik a deep engineering foundation compared with many of the newer entrants to the humanoid space.
The company's flagship product is Apollo, an industrial humanoid with a rated 4-hour runtime on a single charge and a swappable battery system that enables continuous multi-shift operation. Apptronik secured $350 million in a Series A round in 2024, with Mercedes-Benz announced as a launch partner for factory deployment trials. The robot is designed for general manufacturing and logistics tasks at approximately human working height and reach, with a particular focus on tasks too variable for fixed automation but too repetitive for skilled human labour.
Apptronik's competitive positioning emphasises operational endurance and practical serviceability, targeting fleet deployment scenarios where uptime is more commercially important than raw capability at the frontier.
Apptronik does not have a UK office or authorised distribution channel. European engagement is at an early stage. UK manufacturers interested in Apollo would need to initiate direct discussions with Apptronik's enterprise sales team in Austin. No UK deployments have been publicly confirmed. The Mercedes-Benz partnership may accelerate European expansion given that brand's broad manufacturing footprint across the continent.
Apollo is a recently released product and no secondhand market has developed. Hardware remains under active commercial control with pilot partners. Surplus units are not expected to appear through auction or resale channels in the near term. Buyers seeking used industrial humanoids should note that software and fleet management systems for Apollo require an active Apptronik service relationship, which would need to be renegotiated on any hypothetical resale.
