“Robotics, aerospace, and industrial machinery.”
Japanese engineering group. Developed the Kaleido humanoid robot and manufactures industrial robot arms.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries was founded in 1896 as a shipbuilding company and expanded over the following century into aerospace, rail, energy, and industrial machinery. The company entered the industrial robotics market in the early 1970s, making it one of the longest-established robot manufacturers in Japan. Kawasaki robots are used extensively in automotive manufacturing, food processing, and heavy industrial applications worldwide.
The company's Kaleido humanoid robot project, developed in collaboration with research institutions, represents Kawasaki's exploration of bipedal robotic platforms for tasks requiring human-like dexterity and mobility in environments designed for human workers. Kaleido has been demonstrated performing tasks such as inspection and light material handling, though it remains a research and demonstration platform rather than a commercial product.
Kawasaki's industrial robot arm business is well-established, with a range covering collaborative applications through to heavy payload systems used in automotive body welding and foundry work. Their RS and BX series cobots bring collaborative capability to the brand's traditional strengths.
Kawasaki Robotics has a UK subsidiary and an established integrator network. Their industrial robots are used across UK automotive, food manufacturing, and general industry. RS series cobots are available through UK integrators, with pricing comparable to other Tier-1 industrial cobot brands. UK support and spare parts availability are strong.
A solid secondhand market for Kawasaki industrial arms exists through UK and European dealers. Used BX and ZX series units trade from £4,000 to £18,000 depending on payload and age. Kawasaki's parts supply chain is reliable and controller compatibility is generally straightforward to verify. Kaleido units have not been sold commercially and no secondhand market exists.
