About MangDang

MangDang is a Hong Kong-based robotics company that developed Mini Pupper, an open-source quadruped robot built on the Raspberry Pi platform. The project began as a Kickstarter campaign that significantly exceeded its funding target, demonstrating genuine demand for an accessible, open-source legged robot at a consumer-friendly price point. MangDang has since developed multiple generations of Mini Pupper and built a community of educators, hobbyists, and researchers around the platform.

Mini Pupper is designed to be affordable, hackable, and educationally accessible. The Raspberry Pi core means that the vast majority of the open-source robotics and computer vision ecosystem is immediately available to users. The platform supports ROS2 and has been used in university robotics courses and STEM education programmes as an engaging introduction to legged robot dynamics and programming.

The company continues to release new versions with improved servos, sensors, and software capabilities, maintaining the open-source character of the project.

Key Products

• Mini Pupper 1: Original Raspberry Pi-based open-source quadruped; designed for STEM education and hobbyist use.
• Mini Pupper 2: Second-generation with improved servos, LiDAR, and ROS2 support.
• Mini Pupper 2 Pro: Higher-specification variant with additional sensors and compute for research use.

UK Market Presence

Mini Pupper kits and assembled units are available to UK buyers through the MangDang website and through online retailers including Amazon UK. Kit prices range from approximately £200 to £400 depending on version and configuration; assembled versions cost more. UK import and VAT apply. The product ships internationally without restriction.

Buying Used MangDang Equipment

Used Mini Pupper units appear on eBay UK and specialist forums, typically at £100 to £200 for first-generation units. Servo condition and leg linkage wear are the primary checks. The open-source software is community-maintained and actively updated, making older units straightforward to update. Raspberry Pi availability for repairs is not a concern given the part's ubiquity.
