About OpenLoong

OpenLoong is a Shanghai-based humanoid robotics initiative operating as a national innovation centre, tasked with advancing China's open-source humanoid platform capabilities. The project is a collaboration between the Shanghai Humanoid Robot Manufacturing Innovation Centre and several research institutions, with the aim of providing a shared technical foundation that Chinese companies can build upon rather than developing proprietary stacks in isolation.

The OpenLoong platform combines a capable bipedal locomotion system with a dexterous upper body, and the associated software stack is made available to partners under an open-source licence. This approach mirrors the strategy used in China's electric vehicle industry, where shared platform investment accelerated domestic capability rapidly. The initiative has attracted significant government backing as part of the country's humanoid robotics roadmap.

The project also produces the Qiankun series of commercial humanoid derivatives, which package the open platform into application-ready configurations for logistics and manufacturing deployments.
