“Humanoid and collaborative robots for industry.”
South Korean developer of RH5 (KAIST-spinout humanoid) and RB-series collaborative arms. Samsung invested.
Rainbow Robotics was founded in 2011 as a spin-out from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), one of South Korea's leading research universities. The company's origins in academic humanoid research are reflected in its product range, which spans from the RH5 humanoid platform down to the RB-series collaborative robot arms that have become their primary commercial revenue source.
Samsung Electronics made a significant strategic investment in Rainbow Robotics in 2023, acquiring a substantial stake and becoming the company's largest shareholder. This investment reflects Samsung's interest in applying robotics to its semiconductor and consumer electronics manufacturing processes, and gives Rainbow Robotics access to resources and deployment environments that would otherwise be out of reach for a company of its scale.
The RB-series cobots are well-regarded in the South Korean and increasingly European market for their build quality and software ecosystem. The RH5 humanoid platform, descended from the HUBO research lineage at KAIST, represents one of the more mature humanoid research platforms available outside China and the US.
Rainbow Robotics is expanding into European markets and has distributor arrangements in several European countries. UK buyers can source RB-series cobots through authorised European distributors, with pricing comparable to other Tier-2 cobot brands. Direct UK representation is developing; contact the European office for current distributor information.
Used Rainbow Robotics cobots are beginning to appear in the European secondhand market as the installed base grows. Pricing for used RB5 and RB10 units typically falls in the £12,000 to £25,000 range. Joint condition, cable wear, and software compatibility should be verified before purchase. Samsung's involvement gives confidence that parts and software support will continue for the foreseeable future.
