“Creating a new era of robots.”
Tsinghua spinout developing general-purpose humanoids. XBot-L and the speed-record Star 1 (3 m/s+).
RobotEra is a Chinese humanoid robotics company founded in 2022 as a spinout from Tsinghua University, one of China's most prestigious engineering institutions. The company develops general-purpose humanoid robots intended to operate across a wide range of environments and tasks, drawing on the deep robotics and AI research expertise concentrated at Tsinghua.
The company has produced two notable platforms. XBot-L is a full-size general-purpose humanoid with a standard bipedal form factor suitable for both research and early commercial applications. The Star 1 attracted international attention for achieving speeds exceeding 3 metres per second, setting a speed record for bipedal humanoids at the time of its announcement and demonstrating the quality of the company's locomotion AI and mechanical design. Speed capability is significant not only as a technical benchmark but as an indicator of the platform's potential for logistics applications where cycle time matters.
RobotEra benefits from Tsinghua's research networks and its proximity to Beijing's technology investment community, and has attracted funding from leading Chinese venture firms. The company is positioning itself for commercial deployment in manufacturing, logistics, and commercial service applications.
RobotEra does not currently have UK sales operations or European distribution. UK research institutions interested in obtaining XBot-L for academic work can explore direct import, though standard Chinese export and UK import processes apply. Commercial deployment in the UK is not expected before 2026 at the earliest.
No secondhand market for RobotEra platforms exists as of 2025. Future used units, if they become available, will likely emerge from research institutions that participated in early access programmes. When evaluating any future used RobotEra unit, the speed-optimised actuation system in the Star 1 warrants particular attention; high-speed operation accelerates joint wear, so a thorough inspection of all leg actuators is essential.
