About Tokyo Robotics

Tokyo Robotics is a robotics company established as a subsidiary of Yaskawa Electric, one of Japan's leading industrial automation companies. The company develops Torobo, an upper-body humanoid platform designed for research into manipulation, human-robot interaction, and upper-body task performance. Yaskawa's parentage provides Tokyo Robotics with access to high-quality servo and motion control technology that underpins Torobo's precise and compliant arm movements.

Torobo is positioned as a research and light industrial platform rather than a full bipedal humanoid, focusing on the upper body tasks that represent some of the most commercially interesting near-term applications for humanoid robotics. The platform has been adopted by Japanese research institutions and has attracted interest from companies exploring automated assembly of complex components.

Yaskawa's industrial automation expertise, built over decades of producing the Motoman range of industrial robots, gives Tokyo Robotics a distinctive engineering foundation and credibility in manufacturing environments.

• Torobo: Upper-body humanoid research platform with dual arms, compliant joints, and ROS compatibility; designed for manipulation research and light industrial task automation.

UK Market Presence

Tokyo Robotics has limited direct UK presence. Torobo is available to research institutions through direct engagement with the company and through Yaskawa's existing European distribution network. UK pricing for research units is not publicly listed and is typically negotiated directly. UK universities with humanoid manipulation research programmes are the most likely domestic customers.

Buying Used Tokyo Robotics Equipment

Used Torobo units are very rarely available on the secondhand market, as they are sold primarily to research institutions in limited numbers. Any used units would most likely come through university equipment disposal processes. Buyers should verify joint condition, force-torque sensor calibration, and compatibility with the current ROS-based software stack before purchasing.
