ANYbotics was founded in 2016 in Zurich, Switzerland, as a spin-off from ETH Zurich's Robotics Systems Lab. The company emerged from some of the world's most cited research in legged locomotion, including foundational work on the ANYmal quadruped platform that has been reproduced and studied globally. This academic pedigree gives ANYbotics a strong technical foundation and an extensive network of research relationships.

The commercial product is ANYmal D, an ATEX-certified inspection quadruped designed for use in hazardous environments including oil and gas facilities, chemical plants, and offshore installations. ATEX certification is a critical differentiator: it allows operation in atmospheres where explosive gases or dust may be present, opening markets that non-certified robots cannot legally enter. Deployments include offshore oil platforms operated by major energy companies in the North Sea and elsewhere.
