About NAVER LABS

NAVER LABS was established in 2017 as the R&D subsidiary of NAVER Corporation, South Korea's dominant internet and technology company. The lab focuses on robotics, autonomous driving, and indoor mapping, with the AMBIDEX collaborative arm as its most widely cited robotics output. NAVER LABS operates from its headquarters in Seongnam and from a dedicated research facility in Grenoble, France, reflecting an international research orientation that is unusual for a subsidiary of an Asian internet company.

AMBIDEX is a lightweight cable-driven collaborative arm developed for human-environment interaction research. The cable-driven actuation system places motors away from the joints, reducing the mass of the moving arm and enabling inherently compliant behaviour that is safer for close human interaction than conventional rigid actuation. AMBIDEX has been used in demonstrations of musical instrument playing, assembly assistance, and social robotics applications.

NAVER LABS also develops AROUND autonomous indoor robots for delivery within the NAVER headquarters complex, integrating their mapping and navigation research with practical service robot deployment.
