Second-generation humanoid from Figure AI at $150,000, standing 1.7 m with 44 DoF and 20 kg payload. Integrates OpenAI-developed language and reasoning models for task planning. Piloting in BMW manufacturing for assembly and parts-handling tasks. Successor to Figure 01, with improved dexterity and onboard AI inference capability.
Figure 02 is the second-generation humanoid from Figure AI, priced at approximately $150,000 (around £118,000). Standing 1.7 m with 44 degrees of freedom and a 20 kg payload, Figure 02 incorporates speech-to-action capabilities developed in partnership with OpenAI, enabling task instruction through spoken commands rather than explicit programming. The platform is currently in pilot deployment with BMW at a Spartanburg manufacturing facility, marking one of the most significant automotive humanoid pilots globally. Figure AI has raised substantial venture capital funding and moves between hardware generations rapidly, reflecting both the pace of development in the sector and the competitive pressure from other well-funded humanoid companies. Buyers should factor the fast generation cadence into total cost of ownership planning, as software support timelines for earlier generations may be shorter than in established industrial robotics.
Figure 02 targets automotive and general manufacturing assembly tasks, particularly those requiring dexterous manipulation in human-designed workspaces. The natural language interface reduces integration complexity for non-specialist operators, and the 44 DoF provides significantly greater manipulation capability than simpler two-armed platforms.
Figure 02 is too new for a secondhand market to have formed. As BMW and other pilot operators potentially refresh units, early-generation hardware may become available. Buyers should verify software update support commitments before committing to any early-generation unit. Figure AI's rapid development cadence means buyers should also establish whether the Figure 02 will continue to receive capability updates or whether Figure AI's support resources are being redirected to Figure 03, which would affect the long-term value of a Figure 02 acquisition.
