Medical-grade variant of the KUKA LBR iiwa series, ISO 13485 and IEC 60601 certified, with 7 kg payload and 800 mm reach across 7 DoF. Designed for surgical training, imaging assistance, and medical device manufacturing. Used in UK NHS-affiliated research and private medical device companies.
The KUKA LBR Med is the medical-grade variant of the LBR iiwa series, certified to ISO 13485 for medical device manufacturing and IEC 60601 for electrical safety in medical environments. It is available in 7 kg and 14 kg payload variants with 7-axis kinematics and full joint torque sensing, manufactured in Augsburg, Germany. The LBR Med is used in surgical robotics research, medical device assembly, and rehabilitation equipment development.
The medical-grade controller configuration includes additional electrical isolation and fault monitoring to meet IEC 60601 patient safety requirements.
The LBR Med is used as a research platform for robot-assisted surgery systems, medical device assembly under ISO 13485, and rehabilitation robotics research. Universities and medical technology companies use it as the basis for teleoperation systems and minimally invasive surgery research. KUKA supplies it with documentation packs for IEC 60601 compliance integration.
The LBR Med is uncommon on the secondhand market. When units appear, expect to pay £35,000 to £60,000. Medical certification status is critical: verify that the ISO 13485 certificate is current and that the controller configuration has not been modified. Any hardware modification may void the medical certification, requiring re-certification at significant cost.

KUKA🇩🇪 Germany
Robotics for your future.
Used KUKA robots are among the most widely available industrial robots for sale in the UK, appearing regularly through factory decommissions, auction houses, and verified dealers at £5,000–£30,000. KUKA is one of the world's largest industrial robot manufacturers, headquartered in Augsburg, Germany. Their cobot range is led by the LBR iisy — a 6-axis collaborative arm in 3 kg, 11 kg, and 15 kg payload variants — and the precision-grade LBR iiwa widely used in automotive and medical device assembly. KUKA was acquired by Midea Group in 2016 and continues to manufacture in Germany. A large UK integrator base means parts, service, and software support for used KUKA arms is readily accessible.
