Unitree's research-tier Go2 with open low-level SDK, payload mounting rail, 12 DoF, and dedicated Unitree technical support. Available to order via Unitree's EDU sales channel. 2 to 4-hour runtime from the 15,000 mAh long-endurance battery pack, max speed 3.7 m/s, and 8 kg nominal payload (max 12 kg). Best suited to UK research institutions needing full low-level API access and hardware customisation.
The Unitree Go2 EDU is the research-tier variant of the Go2 family, priced at $2,800. It adds an open SDK with low-level joint control access, a payload mounting rail on the back for attaching sensors and compute modules, and priority access to Unitree's technical support team. It is designed for university research groups, robotics companies, and advanced developers who need full control over the robot's locomotion and the ability to mount custom hardware.
Unitree Robotics manufactures it in Hangzhou, China, and the Go2 EDU represents the company's answer to researchers who found the Pro's SDK too restrictive for custom controller development or reinforcement learning experiments. The open SDK provides access at the level of joint torque commands, enabling research into novel gait generation and contact detection algorithms.
The payload rail enables researchers to mount NVIDIA Jetson or Orin compute modules, additional IMUs, depth cameras, LiDAR units, or custom sensor packs without custom fabrication. The open low-level SDK provides joint-level control. The EDU includes depth cameras and foot-end force sensors not found on other Go2 variants.
The Go2 EDU is used in locomotion research, terrain traversal studies, multi-robot co-ordination experiments, and as a sensor platform for outdoor mapping and inspection research. Research groups publish regularly using Go2 EDU hardware for proprioception studies, sim-to-real transfer experiments, and exploration algorithm development. The payload rail and open SDK combination makes it the standard choice for research groups that need both hardware flexibility and software access.
Used Go2 EDU units are less common on the secondhand market than the Air and Pro variants, as research groups tend to retain active research platforms. When available, pricing ranges from £1,600 to £2,200. Verify that the payload rail mounting points are undamaged and that the open SDK licence is transferable to a new owner. Check all joint actuators for smooth operation.
