Yaskawa Motoman
Yaskawa Motoman's 20 kg heavy-duty collaborative arm with 1,700 mm reach, 6 axes, and full IP67 protection throughout. Thru-arm cabling with Category 6 Ethernet, I/O, and air supply simplifies end-of-arm tooling for welding, machine tending, and palletising. Suited to UK automotive and food manufacturing cells where higher payload and longer reach are needed alongside operators. New pricing approximately £40,000 to £55,000; used units from £22,000.
The Yaskawa Motoman HC20DTP is a six-axis collaborative robot arm offering 20 kg payload and 1,700 mm horizontal reach. It is the current-generation successor to the HC20DT and the highest-payload model in the standard HC series before the separate HC30PL. Manufactured by Yaskawa Electric Corporation in Japan, it is sold through Yaskawa Motoman's European and North American distribution networks. The "DTP" designation indicates thru-wrist cable routing for Ethernet, I/O, and air, allowing end-of-arm tools to be powered and controlled without external cable dressing.
The combination of 20 kg payload and 1,700 mm reach gives the HC20DTP a significantly larger work envelope than 10 kg class cobots such as the UR10e or HC10DTP, making it a credible option for palletising light cartons, handling larger sub-assemblies, and multi-station machine tending on longer lines.
The HC20DTP is deployed in automotive body and chassis assembly for larger panel handling, food and beverage end-of-line palletising, machine tending on CNC lathes and presses, and collaborative welding with appropriate torch tooling. Its IP67 rating and NSF H1 food-grade grease make it suitable for washdown zones in food processing plants. The longer reach means it can service multiple machine positions from a single base location, reducing cell footprint compared to using two smaller arms.
The HC20DT and HC20DTP appear occasionally on the European industrial robot resale market through Surplex, Machineseeker, and specialist UK robotics dealers. Used pricing typically falls between £22,000 and £38,000 depending on age, joint hours, and whether the YRC1000 controller cabinet is included. The HC20DT (predecessor without thru-wrist routing) is more commonly available used. As with all Yaskawa Motoman arms, verify controller software version compatibility with the arm firmware and request joint maintenance logs before purchase.
